Sans Titre, (Untitled) is probably the most frequently assigned title in the history of art. Repeated across movements and generations, it has gradually taken on a meaning of its own. What first appears to an absence of choice becomes, over time, an intellectual position — the deliberate refusal to impose a title or restrict interpretation.
